Nepal is a country full of contrasts – from the subtropical Terai up to the icy heights of the Himalayas. Accordingly, the climate is also diverse. Depending on whether you are traveling in the mountains, the Kathmandu Valley, or the lowlands, you can expect very different weather conditions. Here is a brief overview:
Himalayas & Trekking Regions (e.g., Everest, Annapurna, Langtang): The best time to travel is in spring (March–May) and autumn (September–November). During these periods, the air is clear, temperatures are pleasant, and the mountain views are spectacular. In winter, many passes are snow-covered, while in summer the monsoon brings a lot of rain and clouds.
Kathmandu Valley (e.g., Kathmandu, Bhaktapur, Patan): A mild, temperate climate prevails here. The most pleasant time to visit is from October to April, when it is dry and temperatures range between 15–25°C. In summer, it can become hot and rainy.
Terai & National Parks (e.g., Chitwan, Bardia): The lowlands are significantly warmer and more tropical. The best time to visit is from October to March, when it is dry and not too hot – perfect for safaris and wildlife observation. In April/May, the heat increases, and the monsoon brings heavy rain from June to September.
👉 Our tip: Autumn and spring are ideal for trekking and cultural trips. However, Nepal also has its charm in winter or summer – whether it’s clear mountain views during the cold season or lush green landscapes during the monsoon.

The best time to visit Nepal is widely considered to be October to November and March to April — and for good reason.
In autumn (Oct–Nov), you’ll find clear blue skies, warm daytime temperatures, and exceptional mountain views. This is peak trekking season, but it never feels overcrowded in the remote areas we focus on. Spring (Mar–Apr) offers pleasant weather and vibrant landscapes, with rhododendrons in bloom and excellent conditions for both cultural trips and light trekking.
What often reassures travellers is that Nepal is not a one-season destination. Even outside these peak windows, travel is still very possible. Winter (Dec–Feb) brings cooler temperatures but quiet trails and crisp visibility, while the monsoon (Jun–Sep) mainly affects certain regions — and even then, places like Upper Mustang remain largely dry.
In short, Nepal offers reliable travel windows with distinct advantages, rather than a narrow “only time to go”. With the right itinerary and guidance, you can enjoy an incredible experience across multiple seasons — without needing to worry about getting the timing “perfect”.
Everything You Need to Know
Although Nepal is a comparatively small country, it is equally fascinating and full of contrasts. Nestled between India and China, it offers an impressive diversity: from the subtropical plains of the Terai and the culturally rich Kathmandu Valley to the majestic peaks of the Himalayas, including Mount Everest.
This diversity makes it possible to experience very different landscapes and climate zones within just a few hours – from the hot, tropical lowlands through temperate valleys to the clear, thin mountain air at over 5,000 meters altitude. In this way, Nepal combines culture, nature, and adventure with exceptional intensity.
